Here we go! Welcome to the Kidlit Survival Guide. We are two close friends and critique partners who share what we've learned, what's on our minds, and what we're still trying to figure out on this wild kidlit publishing journey. Some things we'll cover:
Advice on crafting and pitching kidlit books
Insights on marketing and selling books
Thoughts and opinions from the trenches
Creative food for thought
Between the two of us, at the time of writing this, we have published twenty books in the last four years, with another twelve books in the pipeline. So, we’re pretty deep in the current trenches of figuring things out!
Our bios are in our About page, so some soft introductions here.
I’m Vicky Fang, an author turned author-illustrator who writes books to inspire kids in STEAM, creativity, and SEL. I like writing fun, commercial books, from board books up to chapter books, and I love new challenges. That’s why I also enjoy making interactive books and am exploring the world of TV storytelling as well. As a former product designer, I approach my books as a product, and enjoy finding the sweet spot between market, audience, and story.
And I’m Christine Evans, an author of picture books and chapter books. One day I will finally finish the middle grade novel I keep talking about. I love heartfelt stories featuring interesting characters and if I can sprinkle in some touches of magic that makes me very happy. I also love new challenges and enjoy playing with art and craft when I have time.
We’ll have at least one free post a month and two posts that are for paid subscribers only where we’ll get even deeper into elements of craft and career. Hit the button below so you don’t miss out!
Yessss!!! This looks amazing!! I'm always so thrilled to find other kid lit substackers.
